A close reading of the Nag Hammadi library, the Gospel of Mary, and other early Christian writings left out of the New Testament, and what they reveal about the first centuries.

Students will be able to

• Read and interpret major texts from Nag Hammadi.
• Explain how the New Testament canon was formed.
• Analyze the roles of women in these early writings.
