Your authority

Can Confluence ministers officiate in Delaware?

Delaware Code Title 13, Section 106 allows a clergyperson or minister of any religion to solemnize marriages, but only after registering with a county Clerk of the Peace. Registration in any county authorizes you statewide, and your registration number must appear on every marriage certificate.

Confluence Seminary of Sacred Studies formally authorizes each of its ordained ministers, in writing, to conduct marriage ceremonies. That authorization is printed on every Confluence Certificate of Ordination.

Step by step

Performing a wedding in Delaware

  1. Get ordained

Complete the $100 Ordination Orientation to receive your ordination. Keep your Certificate of Ordination and Minister ID Card where you can reach them.

  2. Register before the wedding

Register online with any Delaware county Clerk of the Peace and upload your credentials. You will receive a registration number to write on each marriage certificate.

  3. Talk with the couple about the license

The couple gets a marriage license from the clerk of the Peace in any county.

  4. Check the dates

Waiting period: 24 hours. The license is valid for 30 days.

  5. Perform the ceremony

Lead the ceremony in Delaware with the couple present and two witnesses who are at least 18 and have photo identification. Make sure the couple declares their intent to marry each other.

  6. Complete the license

Fill in the officiant section of the license with the date and place of the ceremony and your information, and sign it. Have the witnesses sign where indicated.

  7. Return the license

Send the State's copy of the certificate to the Marriage Bureau within 15 days of the ceremony. Give the couple their copy and keep one for your records.
