Can Confluence ministers officiate in Nevada?

Nevada Revised Statutes Section 122.062 allows licensed, ordained, or appointed ministers in good standing to solemnize marriages, but only after they receive a Certificate of Permission. Under Section 122.064, the application must include an affidavit from your church stating that you are in good standing and authorized to perform marriages, a $25 fee, and a background check.

Confluence Seminary of Sacred Studies formally authorizes each of its ordained ministers, in writing, to conduct marriage ceremonies. That authorization is printed on every Confluence Certificate of Ordination.

Step by step

Performing a wedding in Nevada

  1. Get ordained

Complete the $100 Ordination Orientation to receive your ordination. Keep your Certificate of Ordination and Minister ID Card where you can reach them.

  2. Register before the wedding

Apply for a Certificate of Permission to Perform Marriages well before the wedding; approval can take several weeks. Request a Letter of Good Standing ($30) from Confluence through the contact form. Allow time to receive it before you apply.

  3. Talk with the couple about the license

The couple gets a marriage license from the county clerk.

  4. Check the dates

The license is valid for 1 year.

  5. Perform the ceremony

Lead the ceremony in Nevada with the couple present and at least one witness. Make sure the couple declares their intent to marry each other.

  6. Complete the license

Fill in the officiant section of the license with the date and place of the ceremony and your information, and sign it. Have the witnesses sign where indicated.

  7. Return the license

Deliver the signed marriage certificate to the county recorder or clerk, as the county directs, within 10 days of the ceremony.

Details and exceptions

  • Some Nevada counties also require a short training course for new officiants.
  • Clerks sometimes have their own questions or procedures. Contact the office that issues the license if you are unsure about anything, and confirm the current rules before every wedding, because laws change.
