Your authority

Can Confluence ministers officiate in New Mexico?

New Mexico Statutes Section 40-1-2 allows a person who is an ordained member of the clergy to solemnize marriages without regard to sect. New Mexico does not require clergy to register.

Confluence Seminary of Sacred Studies formally authorizes each of its ordained ministers, in writing, to conduct marriage ceremonies. That authorization is printed on every Confluence Certificate of Ordination.

The couple gets a marriage license from the county clerk.

  5. Complete the license

Fill in the officiant section of the license with the date and place of the ceremony and your information, and sign it.

  6. Return the license

Return the completed certificate to the county clerk within 90 days of the ceremony.

  • Clerks sometimes have their own questions or procedures. Contact the office that issues the license if you are unsure about anything, and confirm the current rules before every wedding, because laws change.
